Quilters Academy 1,
Beginning Quilting and Piecing.

This class is for those who want to learn to quilt from the beginning and for those who have been quilting for a while and need to improve their cutting and piecing skills or maybe you have noticed that you have wavy borders or that your points don’t match.

This class is being taught by Pam Treiber, who has been having great success teaching in the Norway and Marquette areas to large groups of students and now she is coming to Escanaba.

You will learn how to set up your machine and work area properly, what needles and thread to used, adjusting tension, drafting a quilt, how to properly cut fabric using rulers and advance up to piecing, borders and actually quilting your tops using your home machine and binding them. The cost is 160.00 for nine lessons over seven months.
It is nonrefundable but you can rejoin a later class if you miss some lessons.

This is a 9 lesson, 7 months course that meets twice a month the first and last months. You do not have to bring your sewing machine but do need to have a sewing machine in good working order that has a straight stitch to compete the assignments.
This is an intense class and you will have to be able to devote at least eight hours for homework every month.

July 13th
August 3rd, 24th

Things to do before the meeting:
1. Cut three strips of fabric 2 inches by 5 inches in length, they can be scrap.  Sew together side by side with ¼ inch seam, iron and bring to class, do not trim or square up, bring as is.
2. Please read the preface, note from Harriett and through all four lessons in Class 110 before the meeting. When we are done with the book, we will have projects done that include quilts and table runners.

THINGS TO BRING TO MEETING
1. Must have a copy of Quilters Academy Vol. 1-Freshman Year by Harriet Hargrave and Carrie Hargrave from C & T publishing, pen, rotary cutter that you use, notebook and paper and folder to keep papers.
2. Your sewing machine owners’ manual if you are not familiar with changing your foot pressure, top tension or stitch length.
3. Make a list of all of your rulers’ sizes and brands and bring that to the first meeting. You might be surprised what sizes you are missing or have too many.
4. Take an inventory of your rotary mats and sizes and brands and also bring that list to the meeting.

If you have questions call me at 906-563-5198. New quilters, I hope you have fun and learn a lot. For those who have been quilting awhile, you will get reacquainted with what might have been forgotten and learn a lot of new techniques and tricks. We should have some great quilts when we are done.

See you there, Pam Treiber.
